In June 2021, four-year-old Cam started having balance issues and struggling with everyday activities. After an urgent trip to Boston Children’s Hospital, test revealed he had a large germ cell brain tumor – a diagnosis that changed everything for his family.
Cam began treatment immediately, undergoing two rounds of chemotherapy followed by surgery to remove the tumor. His recovery was long and difficult. Cam lost the ability to talk, walk, and eat. By the Fall 2024, Cam’s strength and determination began to shine through. He was back at school, playing soccer, telling jokes, and doing things his family once feared might not be possible.
Then, in the spring of 2025, Cam’s journey took another turn when he was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in his right tibia – his second cancer before the age of nine. His family was devastated. Once again, Cam and his family faced months of intensive treatment, including multiple rounds of chemotherapy, surgery with a donor bone, and more chemo to follow.
During this time, One Mission’s programs at Boston Children’s Hospital became a powerful source of comfort and hope for Cam and his family. The Music and Art Therapy sessions quickly became two of his favorites, offering a space where he could express himself, rebuild confidence, and find moments of joy even on the hardest days. Watch Cam light up in one of his recent Music Therapy sessions and see how your support helps make moments like these possible.
Because of you, programs like Music and Art Therapy, along with Family Meals, Caregiver Lunches, and Special Celebrations, are bringing light and normalcy to kids like Cam every day at Boston Children’s Hospital.
Through it all, Cam has remained positive and resilient, inspiring everyone around him with his courage, kindness and humor, reminding us all, what true strength looks like, and why your support matters.
